A Texas federal magistrate judge this week approved Harvard University's voluntarily dismissal of its patent infringement lawsuit with prejudice against Samsung Electronics and its subsidiaries.

Attorneys from Troutman Pepper Locke and Miller Fair Henry filed the university's notice of dismissal with prejudice Monday just over five months after lodging an initial complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in August. The university initially sought damages and asked the court to enjoin Samsung from using patented technology when producing microprocessors and memory devices, referred to as "chips," in its products. Harvard claimed it had ownership of the patents because two of its professors developed the technology in 2011 and 2009, respectively.
