Patent litigator Amr Aly, 46, is no stranger to an adrenaline rush. Aly, who recently moved from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr to Kilpatrick Stockton, was a U.S. Olympian, playing for the men’s soccer team in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. “The competitive spirit you develop as an athlete parlays well into litigation,” Aly says. He’d know, having represented T-Mobile and WayPort in major patent suits, both of which he won on summary judgment. Aly is also experienced in pharmaceutical and business-method patent litigation.

The move from IP powerhouse Wilmer allows Aly to score some high-profile goals for Kilpatrick’s burgeoning IP practice. The Atlanta-based firm currently has 120 IP lawyers nationwide, but Aly was the first IP partner in New York when he started at the firm in late October. Aly’s Arabic language skills may also come in handy as Kilpatrick grows its Dubai office, opened last November.
