Wei Zhou moved to Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati as a partner, leaving behind his job at Santa Clara, California?based biotech Affymetrix, Inc. Zhou started at Affymetrix in 1999 as an in-house patent counsel and was instrumental in building its formidable patent portfolio. After being promoted to VP of IP, Zhou created a China operation for Affymetrix, forging relationships with leading Chinese universities and engineering centers and starting a joint R&D project. Affymetrix sent him through Harvard Business School’s general management program. So why did Zhou leave? He says he weighed his options: “I could work for one company or I could work for many.” At Wilson Sonsini he will help many life sciences companies expand and evolve in China.
