Detroit’s Dykema Gossett has announced that 53 lawyers from Chicago’s Schwartz Cooper will be absorbed into the firm as it seeks to bolster its Windy City operations.

The transaction is being billed as a mass lateral move, with the bulk of 64-lawyer Schwartz Cooper joining 330-lawyer Dykema. The firm’s remaining lawyers opted not to join, whether because of conflicts or a desire to retire, says Derek Cottier, a real estate partner at Schwartz Cooper. Cottier, who served as the firm’s lead negotiator on the merger, says all seven members of Schwartz Coooper’s executive committee, including managing partner Robert Glick, will join Dykema.
