Christine Helwick serves as the general counsel for the California State University system, which comprises 23 campuses, nearly 450,000 students and about 47,000 faculty and staff employees.

A 1973 graduate from Hastings College of the Law. Helwick began her legal career as a business litigation associate at the firm then known as Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May. She later spent 16 years as an in-house lawyer for the University of California, including several years as a managing counsel for litigation in UC’s office of the general counsel. She moved into her current role as general counsel of the CSU system in 1994.
