Lathrop & Gage, a law firm founded in Kansas City, Mo., has moved into Chicago, opening an office in the largest Midwest city with a lawyer from Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal.

Adding the office in Chicago is part of the firm’s plan to expand into major U.S. business centers at a time when companies are seeking lower-cost alternatives, Joel Voran, the firm’s chief executive, said in a Friday release. Lathrop, which has about 300 lawyers, will now have offices in 11 U.S. locations, although five of them are in Missouri. The firm opened a Los Angeles office in January.
