Salans is opening in Brussels with the hire of a seven-lawyer antitrust team from Mayer Brown.

The office, which is due to open formally on March 1, takes Salans to 22 offices worldwide and will be headed by partner Edward Borovikov.

Trade lawyer Borovikov, who was also a partner with Mayer Brown, is joined by fellow Mayer Brown lawyers Rudi Leleu, who joins as director of international trade and Bogdan Evtimov and Charles De Jager who are joining as counsel.

Salans global managing partner Dariusz Oleszczuk told Legal Week: “Brussels is part of our long-term strategy to expand in Europe. We have been looking at this for 10 years and now seemed the right time to make the move given the good year we had in 2009.
