Houston police continue to investigate the shooting death of Houston trial lawyer Scott D. Lassetter, who was found in critical condition on March 17 outside his ex-wife’s house in the Memorial area of Houston and died two days later. Around noon on March 17, two employees of a pool service company found a critically injured Lassetter with a gunshot wound to the head, according to a Houston Police Department offense report. Lassetter, 52, was found lying face down in the back yard of the house, according to the report, and a pistol was found next to him on the ground. Lassetter was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.
Houston Police Sgt. W. Meeler says the incident is being investigated as a homicide. It may have occurred during a burglary, he says, because a rear-door window of the house was broken. He says Lassetter’s ex-wife and two children were not at home. Meeler says a neighbor reported to police that she heard a noise that sounded like gunshots sometime in the early morning hours, but she didn’t report it to police at the time.
