Lawyers jockeying over where to consolidate federal litigation against hip-replacement device maker DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. seem to agree on only one thing: District Judge Susan Wigenton in Newark shouldn’t handle it.

The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation is preparing to consolidate 14 federal suits over DePuy hip implants recalled on Aug. 27. About 4,500 people are believed to have experienced premature failure of the devices.
