The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office no longer will allow defendants to tap funds seized pursuant to search warrants, the office informed a judge last month.

The new policy, which has angered some defense attorneys and could be subject to modification, was disclosed in the case of Louis Posner, a tax lawyer accused in July 2008 of running a brothel, from whom authorities had seized approximately $500,000.
