Viacom Inc. filed its anticipated appeal of a June district court ruling in favor of Google Inc.’s YouTube video service today. And lawyers from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto and Mayer Brown in New York will continue to represent YouTube in the ongoing battle over alleged copyright infringement.

Viacom said in its filing with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that the lower court’s June decision finding no infringement liability for YouTube was “implausible.” If the ruling is allowed to stand, Viacom argued, it “would immunize from copyright infringement liability even avowedly piratical Internet businesses.”
