ORDER

Pursuant to the provisions of Article 11.07 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, the clerk of the trial court transmitted to this Court this application for writ of habeas corpus. Ex parte Young, 418 S.W.2d 824, 826 (Tex. Crim. App. 1967). Applicant entered an open plea of guilty to aggravated assault, and was sentenced to fifteen years’ imprisonment. The Ninth Court of Appeals dismissed his appeal for want of jurisdiction because the notice of appeal was untimely filed. Horton v. State, No. 09-07-441-CR (Tex. App. — Beaumont, October 10, 2007, no pet.).

Applicant contends, inter alia, that his plea was not knowingly and voluntarily entered, and that his trial counsel rendered ineffective assistance because counsel failed to investigate issues of sanity at the time of the offense and competency to stand trial, failed to adequately communicate with Applicant or explain the proceedings to him, and failed to explain the application of the law to the facts of this case. Applicant also alleges that neither counsel nor the trial court adequately explained to Applicant his right to appeal or the procedure and time line for filing a direct appeal.
