SAN FRANCISCO — Patent merchant Ocean Tomo is suing a former managing director for the alleged theft of trade secrets and confidential client information.

Ocean Tomo hired Steve Lee in July 2009 to manage the sales and marketing of a research tool called Ocean Tomo PatentRatings, according to the complaint filed in the Central District on Jan. 27. He was given a starting salary of $200,000 and access to highly sensitive, confidential information, including business plans, strategies, client lists and legal strategies.
