Ashurst has announced plans to launch a Beijing office with a partner recruited from the newly minted King & Wood Mallesons.

Patrick Phua was head of the derivatives, structured finance and banking practice for the former Mallesons Stephen Jaques’ Beijing office. He is the third partner to leave that office ahead of the merger. In November, former partners John Shi and Nicolas Groffman left to join the Beijing office of DLA Piper. Phua’s departure leaves only one Mallesons partner in Beijing, banking and finance specialist David Olsson.
