SAN FRANCISCO — The Senate confirmed Los Angeles federal Judge Jacqueline Nguyen to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Monday, making her the first Asian-American woman on any federal appellate court.

The Vietnam-born Nguyen fills a vacancy created by the transfer of a D.C. Circuit judgeship to the Ninth Circuit in 2009. It’s the third appointment in 10 years for Nguyen, a former civil litigator and assistant United States attorney who was appointed to Los Angeles County Superior Court by then-Governor Gray Davis in 2002 and to the federal district court by President Obama in 2009.
