SAN FRANCISCO — Apple Inc. and Samsung’s top executives and their legal teams sat down for settlement talks on Monday even as they continued to duke it out over an injunction.

The court-led settlement conference in the smartphone patent battle comes in advance of a July 30 trial in U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh’s San Jose courtroom. She referred the companies to veteran U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph Spero for two days of talks.
