In papers filed Friday in New York state court, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan moved to invalidate a lawsuit filed in California by former partner Michael Perlis over retirement benefits he says he is owed even after jumping from Stroock to Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell.

Perlis filed suit in Los Angeles state court on August 5, two weeks after leaving Stroock, his professional home for more than 20 years, for Locke Lord with five other attorneys. In his bare-bones complaint, the 64-year-old securities litigator claims he is entitled to certain retirement benefits that the firm has denied him and seeks declaratory relief and a jury trial.
