A Philadelphia television station’s minor mistakes in its reporting of an altercation between a Little League coach and a player does not amount to the actual malice needed to support such a defamation claim, a New Jersey appeals court held on Tuesday.

The judges affirmed summary judgment dismissing the suit against CBS, owner of KYW-3, finding violence at youth sports events is a matter of public interest and concern, thereby implicating the actual malice standard.
