An Elbert County judge has stopped a high-stakes silicosis suit brought by Mississippi plaintiffs attorneys who had recovered millions in other silica cases.
The judge relied on a 2011 decision of the Georgia Court of Appeals in granting summary judgment for a mine safety manufacturing company fighting claims that its products failed to protect a granite worker from silica exposure that caused his respiratory disease and required him to undergo a double lung transplant.
