Warning everyone about payment scams in China has become a sort of a tradition for China Blog Daily around this time of year, and Dan Harris writes “the diversity and ingenuity and number of scams is way up.” Here are some cons he says to watch out for this season.

This scam confirms that due diligence is not optional in China. Every year, some foreign company gets suckered into buying a fake intellectual property registration from an equally fake law firm. “Under that scam, a website appears proclaiming really cheap trademark, copyright and patent registrations in China,” writes Harris, “Foreign company sends some money and nothing ever gets filed.”
