A federal judge in Oklahoma on Tuesday struck down a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, ruling that the law violated the 14th Amendment.
Two same-sex couples filed suit against the state shortly after Oklahoma voters approved the amendment in 2004. In a 68-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Terence Kern found the amendment was unconstitutionally rooted in moral disapproval of same-sex marriage.
