Anne Gunderson was not happy to see construction workers near her vacation home in August 2007.
Eight years earlier, she and her husband had built a luxury home on The Bluffs at Mauna Kea resort on the big island of Hawaii. As part of the deal, they negotiated with the developer to relocate a nature trail away from the property and closer to the shoreline—and to some rocky cliffs.
