A Fulton County jury has awarded $5.1 million to the parents of a man killed in his room at an Albany, Ga., Motel 6 in 2007.
Jeffrey Howard Todd, 27, of Carrollton died after exchanging gunfire with one of two teenagers during an attempted robbery. Todd was in town for a job interview when Jimmy Teemer, 17, and Lyndon B. Johnson Jr., now 23, entered his room with a gun, according to court filings. Todd also was armed, and both he and Teemer died at the scene. Johnson and another man accused of providing Teemer’s weapon were both subsequently sentenced to life in prison for the crime.
