A Fulton County jury has awarded more than $3 million to the children of an elderly woman killed when her car struck a tractor-trailer on Airport Loop Road at the merger with Interstate 285 in 2010.

According to court filings, the Stafford Transport truck had stopped in the roadway a few minutes earlier after a minor side-swipe collision with another vehicle when 76-year-old Martha Edins, attempting to merge from Airport Loop onto I-285, ran into the truck at about 7 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2010. The jury verdict, delivered Thursday, set damages at $4,018,000 but apportioned 25 percent of the liability to Edins for an award of $3,012,750.
