Less than two years after Davis Polk & Wardwell helped Patriot Coal emerge from bankruptcy, a global commodities slump has forced the U.S. mining company back into Chapter 11 proceedings in Virginia.

While the struggling U.S. oil and gas industry has garnered headlines and served as a wellspring for potentially lucrative clients in a down market for corporate bankruptcy work, other companies outside the oil field services sector are also providing much-needed restructuring assignments for Am Law 200 firms.
