Plucking 20 partners from at least six law firms to launch its new Houston office wasn’t always the obvious plan for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. But mixing and matching is how the the San Francisco-based Am Law 100 decided it could best gain “depth and breadth” in the city, according to global chairman and CEO Mitchell Zuklie.

On Tuesday, nearly a month after launching the new office, Orrick finally identified the majority of the attorneys involved: 15 lateral additions from six firms—including 13 partners—from Andrews Kurth, DLA Piper, Haynes and Boone, McDermott Will & Emery, McGuireWoods and Susman Godfrey.
