Gov. Nathan Deal seemed to take delight in swearing in Macon Circuit Superior Court Judge Tilman “Tripp” Self III to a new job on the Georgia Court of Appeals starting this month. As Self came forward to take his oath, the governor turned to judges seated in the audience that filled the House of Representatives chambers. They laughed when the governor asked, “Do we have room for one more bow tie?”
Later, after Self had compared the role of an appellate judge to his weekend job officiating college football games, the governor smiled and called the analogy the most-appropriate one he had ever heard.
