Israel’s Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. said Thursday it would pay $225 million for Sourcefire Inc., a privately held provider of intrusion prevention systems.

The mostly cash deal, which also includes the assumption of Columbia, Md.-based Sourcefire’s stock-option plan, is expected to close in first quarter 2006. Analysts estimate the Israeli company paid from four to seven times revenue for the startup.
