Year-end associate bonuses were a little smaller than usual in 2006 at Susman Godfrey, the firm that has set the bonus bar in Texas for the past few years. But don’t boohoo for those Susman Godfrey associates — the firm paid each of them as much as $120,000 in bonus money in 2006, which is still double or more what top-performing associates at many large Texas firms could earn.
While many Texas associates took home a lot more in their paychecks in 2006 due to new, higher salary scales adopted by the firms, a number of firms with large Texas operations still paid healthy year-end bonuses to associates — or will pay them soon.
