The relatively low price tag of IBM Corp.’s deal to sell its printer division to Japan’s Ricoh Co. Ltd. suggests Big Blue had not invested enough in the unit to keep up with competitive rivals, an analyst said Thursday.

“The price — $725 million — is not all that high,” said Allan Krans, an analyst with Technology Business Research Inc. “IBM is so huge that they really had to choose what they will focus on.”
