A lawsuit against Philip Morris Cos. Inc. by smokers who claimed the company deceived consumers in the marketing of its “light” cigarettes must be tried in Arkansas state court and cannot be moved to federal court, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday.
The unanimous decision came in a case that Lisa Watson and Loretta Lawson filed against the Richmond, Va.-based cigarette company in Pulaski County Circuit Court in 2003. The women argued that the company’s Marlboro and Cambridge cigarettes weren’t as low in tar and tobacco as advertised.
