The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. looked like a chessboard in June, as key players were moved from position to position. Seven executives had assumed new responsibilities by the end of play. One of them, Alan Kreczko, was bumped to general counsel after spending four years as the insurance company’s senior vice president and deputy GC.

Kreczko took over the role after former GC Neal Wolin was promoted to president and COO of property-casualty operations. Both men served in recent presidential administrations before joining The Hartford: Wolin was general counsel for the U.S. Department of the Treasury under Bill Clinton and Kreczko was acting assistant secretary for refugees, population, and migration in George W. Bush’s U.S. Department of State. Kreczko’s leadership of the refugees bureau corresponded with the start of the war in Afghanistan, and he led the department through a potential humanitarian crisis following the start of bombing there in 2001. (Wolin is a member of Corporate Counsel‘s editorial advisory board.)
