DuPont’s legal team has generated almost as much money as it has spent since the beginning of 2004 following a drive by the U.S. chemicals giant to aggressively pursue lawsuits and seek licences from companies using its patents.

The company’s 195-strong legal team estimates that it has generated $630 million of revenues in the 3 1/2 year period, $290 million of which was brought in over the last 12 months. A large part of the most recent revenue came from a $92 million asbestos settlement with more than a dozen insurers.
