New York giant Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has strengthened its London practice with the hire of Weil, Gotshal & Manges local restructuring head Chris Mallon.
Mallon, who announced his departure earlier this week, will head up Skadden’s U.K. law restructuring practice. Notable restructurings on which Mallon has worked include Enron, Global Crossing, Loral, MCI/WorldCom, Telewest, Parmalat, Eurotunnel and Gate Gourmet. His departure follows the recent loss of former Weil Gotshal private equity partner Will Rosen, who handed in his notice in July. His destination is not yet known. The departure was a blow to Weil Gotshal as Rosen - whose experience includes public M&A as well as private equity - was regarded as one of the office’s rising stars and worked closely with London head Mike Francies. The move leaves Weil’s London office with one dedicated restructuring partner and around five associates.Commenting on the loss of Mallon, Francies said: “As a firm we have a total commitment to building a much stronger restructuring practice in London than we have had and we remain committed to doing that. It’s a shame Chris is going.”
