Death comes more quickly now in Virginia, at least for those convicted of capital crimes.
Six Virginia inmates were executed or scheduled to be executed between March 25 and May 6. Given the state’s execution rate-the country’s second-highest-those numbers shouldn’t surprise anybody. What is remarkable, though, is how quickly some of the appeals and habeas corpus petitions sped through the system. One of the inmates was sentenced less than two years ago.
