Harold E. Kohn, who has been described as one of the architects of modern class-action litigation, died yesterday in Philadelphia. The founding partner of Kohn Swift & Graf was 85 years old.

Mr. Kohn, who was nationally known for his role in the development of contemporary practice for multi-district litigation in federal courts, is remembered by his contemporaries and proteges as both a brilliant trial lawyer and a principled and generous man.
