Litigation is a big stick for a lawyer like Houston’s John O’Quinn, so when his firm was hit June 4 with a $70 million class action suit filed by disgruntled former silicone breast-implant clients, O’Quinn didn’t hesitate before pummeling the class action lawyers with a libel suit.
O’Quinn got some of what he wanted immediately: He and the class action lawyers – W. Fred Hagans and Terry Scarborough – signed a Rule 11 agreement June 7 that bars them from talking to reporters about either suit. It also bars all of them from talking to any former O’Quinn & Laminack clients about their breast-implant settlement or any related matter.
