The salaries of federal judges have been illegally frozen by Congress, a federal judge in Washington has ruled in a class-action suit brought by Senior U.S. District Judge Louis C. Bechtle and 19 other federal judges across the country.
The suit challenged Congress’s decision to deny cost-of-living adjustments to all federal judges between 1995 and 1997 — despite giving them to nearly all other federal workers.
