Of all the local rules in Philadelphia’s federal court, perhaps the one most often ignored or flagrantly violated is Local Rule 5.1.1, which prohibits plaintiffs’ lawyers from including any specific dollar amount in the ad damnum clauses of their lawsuits when seeking unliquidated damages.

Defense lawyers often ignore violations or at least choose not to file a formal motion.
