San Francisco Superior Court Judge James McBride, who avoided trial on domestic violence charges with a creative plea deal Tuesday, wiggled through a legal loophole that should be closed, lawyers and women’s advocates say.

“Amazing what the rich and powerful can get that the great unwashed cannot,” Deputy Public Defender Grace Suarez said Wednesday. “Justice is such an elusive concept.”
