Active participation in e-commerce and the Internet means that companies that provide Internet access-ISPs, co-location service providers, web site hosts, Usenet list hosts or chat room hosts-operate servers that copy and store information or content created by others. In every instance, there is the possibility of liability for the company that owns or controls the servers, whether or not the company was initially responsible for loading or posting the disputed information. The following clauses provide two ways for an Internet access or service provider to limit its liability in agreements with content providers:
