Network Solutions Inc., the Herndon, Va.-based keeper of Internet domain names, returned to the financing trough by staging the largest public offering recorded to date in the Internet sector.

The secondary offering raised about $2.2 billion last week, giving the company an infusion of cash and also pumping fees into San Francisco-based Pillsbury Madison & Sutro, which served as counsel on the deal.
