But for a computer problem that kept him up late the night before, Drinker Biddle & Reath's Matthew Farley would have been at work on the 89th floor of the World Trade Center's Tower 1 when the first plane hit. Instead he reached the tower's base before it collapsed, and for the next 14 hours served as the hub of e-mail communications via his BlackBerry until Drinker Biddle was able to account for all its lawyers and staff.
