Judges are on the front line of battles over same-sex couples' legal rights and should never belong to a group that discriminates against gays, backers of a proposed change to ABA ethics rules argued Friday. Discussion on the matter occurred during an all-day hearing on proposed judicial ethics changes at the association's summer meeting. Any changes would constitute the first overhaul of the rules in more than a decade, and could affect thousands of judges.
