Workers at the Justice Department on Friday removed the drapes that for the past 3 1/2 years have famously covered two scantily clad statues, Spirit of Justice, with a breast exposed and arms raised, and the bare-chested male Majesty of Law. A spokesman said Paul R. Corts, the assistant AG for administration, recommended the drapes be removed and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales signed off on it. The drapes, installed at a cost of $8,000, had provoked much criticism of Gonzales' predecessor, John Ashcroft.
