Alston & Bird dropped a bomb on the Atlanta legal market Tuesday afternoon, raising salaries for 2006 first-year associates to $115,000.

That’s up from $100,000 and the first bump for associates at Alston & Bird since the firm raised compensation from $75,000 in 2000. Most other big firms in Atlanta followed suit that year and have remained in that range since. A salary increase by one top Atlanta firm usually forces other firms to follow suit.
