It might just be the most expensive phone call never made.
Allen Kent, a Corte Madera, Calif., attorney, ran up more than $250,000 in legal fees defending against inquiries by the state Supreme Court and the State Bar after failing to appear for oral arguments in February 2004 — and failing to give the justices a courtesy call.
