Jeffrey Liss, co-managing partner of DLA Piper in the United States, passed away March 17 at Johns Hopkins Hospital from pancreatic cancer. Liss, 56, was an associate and later partner at Wald, Harkrader & Ross in Washington, before joining Piper & Marbury in 1985.

“Jeff has been the heart and soul and moral compass of the firm, and he was the embodiment of the word partner. He will be with us every day. His fingerprints are all over the firm,” said Lee Miller, joint CEO of DLA Piper. Liss served on DLA Piper’s global board and its U.S. executive and policy committees. Throughout his tenure, Liss helped lead the firm through a tremendous period of growth and global expansion, transforming it from a regional Baltimore-Maryland law firm to an international firm with 63 offices in 24 countries.
