The Atlanta lawyer who filed the suit that ended Miami-Dade County’s set-aside program for minority contractors has taken fresh aim at Broward County, Fla.’s affirmative action effort for contracts.

On March 15, Atlanta attorney Herbert P. Schlanger filed suit in U.S. District Court in Fort Lauderdale against Broward County and the seven county commissioners in an attempt to end the county’s minority set-aside program in construction, engineering and architectural contracts. The suit seeks both damages and injunctive relief for “racial, ethnic and sexual discrimination” on the grounds of violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the 14th Amendment.
