Tort reformers on Monday dropped a proposed initiative in California to curb class actions, marking the fourth time in three years that trial lawyers in that state have dodged a ballot-box threat.
In previous years, there were obvious reasons why the Consumer Attorneys of California prevailed: a negotiated truce with Big Pharma, help from legislative friends or an unrelated ballot measure that drained a corporate opponent’s resources.
